Since 1701 - the oldest Fraternal Society in Kelso
On the afternoon of Sunday 12th June 2026, Lodge Kelso & Tweed No. 58 welcomed the 2026 Kelso Laddie, Chad Pattetson, along with his Right Hand Man, Angus Utterson; Left Hand Man, Jack Forsyth; several guests from the Kelso Laddies Association, the Ex-Laddies Club and Provost Gavin Horsburgh.
The Master, Brother Graeme Forsyth, welcomed the group to the Lodge Rooms, anticipating a pleasant afternoon in their company. He concluded by congratulating Chad Patterson and wishing him a happy and successful year as the town’s Kelso Laddie. Bro. Tim Slater IPM, introduced the Brethren. A special welcome was given to Bro. James Thom who was attending in his capacity as the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of the Scottish Borders.
Ex-Kelso Laddie Andrew Haig, Chairman of the Kelso Laddies Association, thanked the Master for the welcome, introducing the Kelso Laddie, his Left Hand Man, Right Hand Man and the rest of the vistors – Gary Cleghorn, Vice Chairman Kelso Laddies Association; Gavin Horsburgh, Provost & Honorary President Kelso Laddies Association; Chris Black, Paul Utterson and Johnny Dickson.
Bro. Drew Forsyth PM, Immediate Past Provincial Grand Master, delivered an interesting presentation entitled “Kelso to Zambia – A Personal Journey.” His talk traced his Masonic journey, beginning as a young Entered Apprentice in 1990 and following his progression through the various offices of the Lodge to become Right Worshipful Master. It culminated in his appointment as Provincial Grand Master in 2020, which ultimately led to an invitation to Zambia to present a paper at an international Masonic conference.
Throughout his presentation, Bro. Drew reflected on how Freemasonry had provided him with opportunities for personal growth, self-improvement, and the development of character, while opening doors to experiences and friendships that he could never have imagined when he first entered the Lodge.
A Poem Tae The Laddie
Brother Bill Heaney PM, delivered the now customary Lodge’s poem in honour of the Kelso Laddie. Following this, the Master called for “Honours” for the Kelso Laddie, and the Brethren toasted his success with the customary Masonic Fire.
The Master presented the Kelso Laddie with a fine bottle of the Grand Master Mason’s Choice Whisky and a small personal gift. There then followed a presentation of a cheque of £150 to Kelso Laddie, to go towards the sponsorship of Civic Week Saturday entertainment. The proceeds of the afternoon’s raffle, £153, was presented to Chairman the Kelso Laddies Association for the Ex-Laddies Sponsord Walk.
The Kelso Laddie expressed his gratitude to the Lodge for their generous gifts and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. The Laddies then gave the customary rendition of “Bonny Kelsae,” which was met with great applause.
