Kelso & Tweed Supporting Dental Care in Tanzania

This September, Lisa from one of Kelso’s local Dental Practices will travel to Tanzania to take part in a dental volunteer programme with Bridge2Aid, a remarkable charity dedicated to improving access to urgent dental care in some of the world’s poorest communities.

During the visit, Lisa will help train local dental therapists, equipping them with the skills and confidence to provide safe and effective dental treatment within their own communities long after the volunteers have returned home. Passing on this knowledge and creating lasting local support is one of the most valuable contributions dental professionals can make.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters, more than £3,100 has already been raised, covering all travel and programme expenses. Any additional funds raised will go directly to Bridge2Aid to help provide essential dental supplies, medicines, and equipment. Lodge Kelso & Tweed No. 58 is pleased to support Lisa and Tamsyn in this worthwhile and compassionate endeavour with a donation of £200.

Oral diseases affect around 3.5 billion people worldwide, disproportionately impacting the most disadvantaged populations, typically in remote rural areas. The pain caused by oral disease can affect someone’s ability to eat and carry out every day tasks – such as working and attending school.

Our aim is to share prevention messages and enhance the competence and confidence of the local dental workforce. This work is conducted in partnership with local dental associations, NGOs, and always with permission and by invitation from the Health Ministries. Our projects aim to reinforce the current healthcare structure and advocate for access to oral health education and treatment.
